If I remember right, a girl breaks up with her hometown sweetheart (a boy her family adopted as a foster child) and moves away, marries someone else and has a kid. She goes back to her hometown with her daughter sans her husband and eventually gets swept back up in her old relationship which turns out to be with an emotionally and physically abusive man.
